With the growing popularity of women’s MMA, it is important to recognize these women with a rankings system similar to the men.

Between the UFC’s inclusion of a bantamweight division and the all-female promotion of Invicta FC, more and more women are being exposed to the casual and hardcore fans alike.

Every month, the MMA Corner’s Riley Kontek will compile the staff’s individual rankings from featherweight to atomweight to create the MMA Corner Women’s MMA Rankings.
Last month’s rankings are indicated by the number in parentheses next to the fighter’s Name.

For Example:

Bantamweight Division (135 Pounds)
  1. Ronda Rousey (1)
  2. Cat Zingano (2)
  3. Sara McMann (3)
  4. Miesha Tate (4)
  5. Sarah Kaufman (5)
  6. Alexis Davis (6)
  7. Liz Carmouche (7)

Rosi Sexton - A Journey Eleven Years in the Making

Originaltext:

In a little under three weeks, I'll be making the final preparations before I step inside the world-famous Octagon to make my debut in my sport's most elite competition - the UFC.

When I walk out to the 15,000 capacity crowd in Winnipeg into the lights and music of the UFC I'll be focused only on the fighter in front of me - Canadian Alexis Davis.

But ever since I got the call inviting me to join UFC in April, I've been contemplating just how far women's mixed martial arts (MMA), and I, have come in the past few years.
UFC is the leading MMA organisation, the sport that I've competing in since 2002. It's a rapidly growing sport in the UK, and is huge across the world and broadcast in a billion homes globally.

Mix Fight Gala XIV Darmstadt - Kamila Porczyk vs. Jana Wagenhuber (Big Brother) 15.06.13

Originaltext:

The Extra Challenges Women Face in MMA – Part 1 of 3 by TXMMA

Originaltext:

May 28, 2013 – TXMMA wanted to explore the differences between what it’s like being a male and female mixed martial artist. We interviewed several female professional fighters about their own experiences in Women’s Mixed Martial Arts and found out that although fighting is fighting, when it comes to gender and the treatment of females in MMA, a fighter is not always just a fighter.
Through our discourse with these women it became apparent that it is significantly harder to be a professional female fighter than it is to be a male MMA fighter. Women not only have to face the same obstacles as the men do to succeed, but they must also deal with additional challenges that the men don’t. Some were predictable, others came as a total surprise, but all of them have one thing in common: they are distractions taking attention away from these ladies’ fighting skills and their ability to hone said skills in order to succeed as professional mixed martial artists –which is all that should really matter anyway.
These are some of the hurdles female fighters are encountering in their paths as professional mixed martial artists:

Olympic Wrestling Needs Twitter Followers

Tomorrow, wrestling will encounter the first of two major barriers that need to be overcome in order to retain its status as an Olympic sport. This barrier comes in the form of the IOC picking which sports will be considered for the final remaining Olympic spot. Twitter will play a factor in which sports gets selected.
Today, as part of the selection process, the IOC board will scrutinize the number twitter followers possessed by the governing bodies of the sports in contention. FILA is the governing body of wrestling, and right now it badly could use your follows on twitter. Go now and follow @fila_official. That is, unless you want to see a vital part of our cultural heritage as human beings erased from the world's highest platform for sporting competition.

The Olympians have arrived - 2014 Sara Mcmann vs. Ronda Rousey?

Orignaltext:
UFC 159 featured not only exciting bouts but also the 3rd women’s mixed martial arts bout between undefeated Sara Mcmann & Sheila “The German Tank” Gaff. In classic fashion, McMann embraced the grind that made her a historic grappler in the world and defeated Gaff in round one with a mounted crucifix, hastily on her way to the top 5 UFC Womens Bantamweight rankings, crowned by another Olympian, undefeated Ronda Rousey.

McMann & Rousey have a combined 16 World Championship Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in Judo and freestyle wrestling world championships in addition to Rousey’s Olympic Bronze medal in Judo in 2008 Beijing and McMann’s Olympic silver medal in freestyle wrestling in 2004 Athens.

With the high level of grappling accolades abundant, can we hope to see these two world-class clinchers sharing an octagon, that is, if Rousey can get past undefeated Cat Zingano in the fall and McMann can continue to grind down the coming competitors.

Note:
Cat Zingano was replaced by Miesha Tate

Ronda Rousey shocked as Miesha Tate replaces an injured Cat Zingano on UFC's 'TUF' show

Originaltext:
Unbeaten Cat Zingano, who was slated to coach opposite women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, injured a knee and was replaced as coach by long-time Rousey rival Miesha Tate.

Rousey did not know that Zingano was injured – UFC president Dana White said it had been a tightly kept company secret since Zingano injured her right knee during a May 16 workout – or that Tate had been brought in to replace her, until the opening scenes of the show were filmed on Tuesday.

When Tate came out, Rousey was clearly stunned and she stormed out of the UFC training center, searching for White. She later said she was angry because she thought Tate was replacing her.

In an interview conducted today, female MMA fighters Stephanie Skinner and Cassie Robb discuss what they feel is inappropriate communications from writer Eric Holden. Holden, known for articles playing up the "sexy" side of female fighters, had, according to Robb and Skinner, several contacts with both fighters focusing on their openly gay relationship, including stating that their kissing photos gave him a "boner", that they should post more "PG-13" photos and inquiring about their openness to "threesomes".

Alexandra Buch gewinnt No Compromises2

Originaltext:

Was war passiert?

Alexandra Buch Wins No Compromises FC Title

Orginaltext:

German standout Alexandra Buch outlasted two opponents to become the inaugural NCFC Women’s Featherweight Champion on Saturday evening at No Compromises Fighting Championship 2 in Hamburg, Germany. Buch defeated Jessy Schwarz and Anne Merkt in succession to capture the title.
The championship tournament was almost cancelled during the event after Buch’s original semi-final opponent, Jannie Schmits, suffered a panic attack and withdrew from the fight. Schwarz, who had already fought Merkt earlier in the evening, stepped in as a last-minute replacement to face Buch.

Kerry Barrett: The Fighting Grandmother - by MMACorner

Originaltext:

It’s a saying that realtors and retailers will often use in droves. And it’s also the catchcry by which Kerry Barrett lives her life. Now that she is pushing the age of 40, she finds herself, after seven years of martial arts training, ready to take a good run at the world’s fastest growing sport.
“I started training on my 33rd birthday,” she revealed in an exclusive interview with The MMA Corner. “I decided to treat myself to a martial arts program so that I could try and lose weight. When I joined up, I was 114 kilograms [251 pounds], so my main goal was to cut down. Once I started training though, I was hooked.”
Competitive sport had always been in Barrett’s nature, even before her mission to lose weight. She competed in numerous sports and excelled in them, so an attempt to excel in MMA was just natural progression for her.
